Ojibwe Teachings & Storytelling for the New Year
With Jay and Sweetie Bird
Saturday 11 January 2025

Approximately 2 hours
The beginning of a New Year is the perfect time to find a quiet place, settle in, and receive the wisdom of the ancestors. Ojibwe Medicine People and Members of Shamans Directory, Jay and Sweetie Bird use traditional storytelling to share the truth and the origin of their teachings, offering both cultural and spiritual practices for everyone. Some of what you will hear will include stories and practices from before colonization.
Jay Bird is a Jiisikaan (Shake Tent) Conductor. He is Bear Clan and from the Batchewana First Nations of Ojibways, Sault Sainte Marie Ontario. In 2010 the Batchewana First Nation Chief and council presented him with the Sacred Pipe that he now carries. Since that time, Jay has embraced and furthered his gifts through years of study with Elders. Sweetie Bird is from Lac Du Flambeau, Wisconsin, Ojibwe. She and Jay are Traditionally married and a team. She assists Jay with Shake Tent, and is beginning her own practice in one-on-one doctoring, and healing sessions.
This is a rare opportunity to receive these teachings outside of traditional Ojibwe communities - and quite different from the online experiences that most Westerners are used to. In a world that can leave us feeling overwhelmed and depleted, it is important that we find ways to reset our central nervous systems and bring our hearts back into synchronicity with the heartbeat of Mother Earth. We encourage you to give yourself the gift of this unique and beautiful experience.
