The Center for Shamanic Education and Exchange
With Mary Olivar
Saturday 13 April 2024
8am PDT / 11am EDT / 5pm CET

Approximately 2 hours

Shamans Directory Member Mary Olivar is a shamanic practitioner in Austin, Texas and a member of the Board of Directors for the Center for Shamanic Education and Exchange, a nonprofit whose work perpetuates the spiritual wisdom, culture, practice, and traditional ways of life of Indigenous people worldwide. Their vision is that by honoring and supporting Indigenous people, the world will be re-acquainted with its shamanic inheritance. Current projects include programs with the Kogi in Colombia, the Shipibo Conibo in Peru, the Wixarika Huichol in Mexico, Mayan elders in Guatemala, and communities in Ecuador.

In addition to sharing about these projects, Mary will be showing images of shamanic artwork from the Shipibo Conibo, native to the Ucayali river basin in South America, the Kogi who live in the high mountains of northern Colombia, and the Wixáritari, or Huichol people, Indigenous to the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range of Central Mexico. We will learn how each of these shamanic art pieces represents deep meaning, and embodies the people's spiritual beliefs and practices.
